Welcome
We specialize in making silhouettes of tall ships and sailboats featuring curved glass sails.
Beginning in 1994, Ships of Glass was launched as a business. Don's work was a featured exhibit at the Safety Harbor Museum in Safety Harbor Florida that same year. Customers provide Don with a full-broadside sail plan or photograph of a favorite vessel. From that image, a line-art drawing is created, and the hull and rigging components are reproduced from that drawing. Using basic stainglass techniques, the parts are assembled and the sails are bent on.
The item that makes Don's work stand out is the curved glass sails, giving the presentation the look of being close-hauled and underway.
"Yes, I can make a glass image of your sailboat!"
